StadtPalais Stuttgart was opened in 2017 under the premise of creating an inclusive museum for all city dwellers. In her permanent installation in the foyer of the building, Anike Joyce Sadiq addresses this motto. Five street-lamps hanging upside down from the ceiling like a chandelier create a connection to the public urban space. The lights are switched on and off in synchrony with the regular streetlights, symbolically dissolving the threshold between inside and outside. With this work, the artist also reflects on her own childhood in Stuttgart, for which public space and the social function of street lamps were of crucial importance. The small accompanying publication contains a personal text by the artist to complement the work and was printed on poster paper. The cover shows the changing circuit times of the lanterns for every single day of the year.
